 BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Crystal Window and Door Systems, LTD., established in 1990 is a rapidly growing, award winning manufacturer of a full product line of quality, energy efficient vinyl and aluminum windows. Window products are offered in a wide variety of styles

including double-hung, sliders, casements, and awnings amongst others.

Crystal products are suitable for residential, commercial, and heavy-commercial replacement and new construction applications. Special window products such as vinyl bay and bow windows are available as well as architectural shapes in both vinyl and aluminum. Items are custom made to the specific sizes needed by the customer. Several door

products are also available. Sliding patio doors in both vinyl and aluminum are available in standard or custom sizes. A new line of residential Steel and fiberglass clad entrance doors with a variety of glass lights are now being produced.

 

Crystal has experienced phenomenal growth of over 20% each year. In fiscal year 1998, the company reached sales of almost $24 million and employed about 170 persons. The company's 100,000 square foot headquarters and production facilities are located in New York City, in the borough of Queens. Expansion of production capabilities through the construction of a new factory in Queens is underway.

 

Crystal Window and Door Systems, LTD., is a major window supplier in the New York City metropolitan area and throughout the Eastern U.S.A. Crystal branch offices and network of franchise and affiliate companies are located in Connecticut (New Haven area), Georgia (Atlanta area), Illinois (Chicago area), Maryland (Washington, D.C. area), Massachusetts (Boston area), Michigan (Detroit area), New York (Manhattan), North Carolina (Charlotte area), Ohio (Cleveland area), and Pennsylvania (Harrisburg and Allentown areas), and Texas (Dallas area). Many regional window and building supply dealers, distributors, installers, and contractors also carry the product line.

Overall, Crystal products are sold in at least 15 states. Crystal utilizes state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and techniques throughout its assembly plants in order to produce quality, cost effective products and to deliver orders accurately and quickly. The company uses its own, on-site extrusion equipment to produce quality vinyl window profiles and accessories for Crystal's finished products. Crystal is a licensed user of the PPG "Intercept" insulated glass technology fabrication process, one of only 100 firms in the U.S.A. Other highlights of Crystal's manufacturing include fully automated glass cutting equipment, four-point vinyl welding machinery and bending equipment for both vinyl and aluminum to produce architectural shapes.

 

The company has received numerous awards and certifications. The company has been certified by several New York State and City government agencies as a Minority/Women Business Enterprise (M/WBE). A high point in the company's history was reached when Crystal received the "National Minority Manufacturer of the Year - 1998" from the United States Dept. of Commerce. The company was also a winner of the 1998 New York Times/Chase Manhattan Bank "New York City - Bridges to Success" award. In 1999, Crystal's growth was nationally recognized when it was listed in the annual ranking of the "Top 100 Window Manufacturers" in the county, by Window and Door Fabricator Magazine and when ranked 34th in INC Magazine's annual Inner City 100. Crystal's founder and President was recently named the 1999 Business Person of the Year by the Queens Chamber of Commerce.
